How the counters screen works

Main counters screen

Main counters screen

The counters screen was designed to be as simple as possible, but with enough depth to suit anyone.  It’s initially set up with some common Magic: The Gathering things, like Poison counters, mana tracking and storm counters.  To increment or decrement the number, just tap the [+] or [-] buttons.  If you press the name of the counter you get a wheel (what Apple calls a ‘Picker’), so you can change it by a large amount.  If you use the wheel, make sure you tap the save button to store the value.  On the screen with the wheel, there is also a Reset to 0 button to quickly set that counter to 0.

The counters area is split into three groups.  Beneath the three groups you will find two extra buttons – Reset values and Rename groups. Reset Values allows you to reset your counters to 0 for a whole group at a time, or even for the whole lot at once.  Reset all is useful when you are starting a new game.  If you have a whole bunch of counters that reset every turn of the game, it helps to put them all into one group so you can reset that group at the beginning of a turn.

Rename groups is pretty self-explanatory.  You can just give your groups new titles.  Simply tap Rename groups, then the name of the group you wish to edit.

In addition to renaming the groups, you can Add, Delete or Rename any of the existing counters.  To enter edit mode, tap the edit button at the top-right of the main counters screen.

The view will change to the edit mode.  You can click on a red (-) to delete the counter.  A delete confirm button will appear when you do this.

You can also add in a new counter underneath the group of your choice by tapping on the green (+).  When you tap the (+) you will get a new screen where you can add in a name for it.

If you tap one of the counters’ names, you will go to a new screen where you can change the name of the counter.

Lastly, you can re-order the counters by tap-dragging the three lines that appear to the right of the > symbol. Tap and hold the three lines for a little while until a shadow appears under the row, then you can drag it to its new place.
